About the Play
An epic drama about a bronze caster named Egue Eghae who, after a long period of self-exile, returns to his native home to face the pain of lies, murder, and betrayal from the members of his community. He will have to take his own life if he must reclaim his standing in the community where he selflessly uses his skills for the greater good.
The tragic hero's name is Egue Eghae, which also serves as the play's title. He is supposedly a bronze caster from Ifẹ̀ who was sent to lead a guild of bronzesmiths to Benin in the 14th century, under the rule of Ọọ̀nì Lámọ̀ọ́ró Ògìyán. Egue Eghae, the current work, tells the story of that historical individual and is enhanced with dramatic turns befitting of a tragic character in a tragic drama.
