E.P: What type of music do you play? And how did you develop the passion for music?

Ans: I sing afro hip pop, afro pop, strictly afro, I develop the passion for music whenever I see what goes or comes around me.

E.P: What inspires you when writing your songs or when singing?

Ans: I get inspired whenever I hear the beat and whenever the topic shows up.

E.P: Tell us some of your performance?

Ans: I get many as I can, am always the man of the crowd, I can’t remember all my performance but I can remember performing with coson house.

E.P: What are the messages you want to pass to your listeners with your music?

Ans: I don’t sing all because I want to sing, I sing to console, share, advice, fight for the right of my people that way I love to hear freedom fighter type of songs.

E.P: Briefly introduce yourself?

Ans: I am Mature Tanko Okoduwa, an award winning poet artist actor, literary critic and historian, I obtained BA and MA in arts and Art History from the university of Nigeria Nsukka, as a freelance Journalist, I have published more than one hundred articles in national and international print media, in the areas of visual and performing arts, I have had solo and group exhibitions within and outside Nigeria and I have acted in several Nollywood movies.

E.P: Why did you take to writing?

Ans: Well I started writing as a way of offloading many things inside of me, first attempt at writing started with play writing. Poetry found me at an unusual hour in a lonely night, when I read John Domes Poems. I got hooked and I have never looked back, with poetry I discovered the best way to express myself. Poetry s like painting, music, aesthetics etcetera, these patterns appealed to me naturally. Imagine this like from my work in progress.

E.P: What was the motivation for writing?

Ans: The greatest motivation for me is life; life is a mystery, a rare gem. From the day I could understand the books that I read specifically the ones that inspired me. I told myself I was good to be a writer. I would love to be read, so I started to write. Writing took me off the streets instead of always using my fist, pen because my glove, my gun.

E.P: Tell us some of the works you have published and where our readers can get them easily?

Ans: I have authored several books, among my volumes of work are “Deep Room and other Plays”, “Our Poisoned love”, “Crucible”, “Drums of Heart”, Lamentation of Onajite”, “Radical Rhythm”, “An Island of self”, “Confession and others” my work appeared in “Silence All Things Will Die”, also in “Five Hundred Nigerian Poets” Onomoresoa anthology of Nigerian poets on mothers and motherhood” etc. I have published more than one hundred article in national and international print media, you can get my books in Bookshops in Lagos and some university bookshops in Nigeria, we sell directly to buyers who request for it through the contact information on our books.

E.P: Does the vocation pay your bills?

Ans: it does to some extent. But the money isn’t consistent, so I have to keep pushing and pushing in terms of marketing and sales.

E.P: What inspires you in writing?

Ans: Basically. Life is one of my subject matters, it is inexhaustible and transubtantial, I’m always seeking to attain the unknown as Rimbaud puts it, “some times, it can be the environment (nature) or a flower or a woman or even a dream.

E.P: Your message to lovers of literary works?

Ans: they should keep an open mind. Read “it is the best was to learn, growing up, I didn’t really know where I was heading to, literature some how pointed to the direction, the most important things keep reading. Take for instance success, the best of “Napoleon Hill”, I learnt so much from the book though a motivational book. Writing has helped to broaden my horizon and world view it has helped me to discover more about myself. On a final note. I would say embrace life, do not limit yourself, for life is too short.

E.P: What is your Mission in Music?

Ans: My mission in music as an individual is tied to my priority as a musician, I believe in channeling my vision into the arts world because I believe in its ability to channel something’s into our consciousness which is beyond our understanding as individual but by and large for the progress of the human race that’s why am singing about personal issues, social issues and political issues.

For me personally I believe in the importance of the artist to reflect our mind as country stake-holder, however to use it in the incredible varieties of ways, very clearly very articulate what am trying to achieve is to sound clearly and directly as possible as an African Man, the human species and the importance of us to be together.

E.P: Having come from a family that is musically re-known, how do you develop your passion for music?

Ans: The passion began from

the environment where I grew up in the midst of excellent guitarist, keyboardist, instrumentalist and saxophonist, where the greatest musicians have always played, I tied my education to it, all these years. So I never forget, my love for music grew up from my experience with music in my surroundings.

E.P: You are a member of the positive force band playing under your father, what does it feel like?

Ans: Playing under my father made me to understand that  I am not just playing for my father but somebody you know his ideology that he has been fighting for all these years, the music that he plays when you accept everything in his music then you know that your acceptance is total and there is nothing more to add- you feel nothing but relevance to be able to stand with him on stage, what I also feel is been with the positive force bond this are musicians that rehearse in front of fans every Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays there is no other band- that does this in the entire world.

E.P: Made –What are your projection for the next five years.

Ans: On my own Music?

E.P: Yes on your musical career.

Ans: My own music is clear, am planning on an album although am not going to disclose what it’s going to be in terms of compositional form.

E.P: (Interjection) but it is definitely going to be Afrobeat because that is the music of our environment?

Ans: Yes it is Afrobeat but with other varieties, with my taste which are wider music wise, I guess it will be released in 2020 although I have not really start  but I know am working diligently on it.

E.P: What is your impression of FELA your grand father?

Ans: Most of the things I had about him are from my father, the stony that no one can tell you except only one that is close to him can tell. So my first experience about his personal life and then his music I have to listen to it not just as an average musician but it made me understand how incredible life it was in that period of time and he was able to make it, oh you will have nothing but respect for him.

E.P: After your twelve years absence from the FELABRATION FESTIVALS what your observation about the global impact the festival as assumed?

Ans: Honestly it has grown beyond what I imagined, all everything is just incredible, and I think the management worked so hard because I am not part of the management, I came back not quite long.

E.P: So next year we expect you to be part of the great FELABRATION MANAGEMENT TEAM AND SEE MORE OF EACH OTHER?

Ans: Yes

E.P: What is your message to music lovers?

Ans: My message to music lovers is to always make sure you try something different, broaden your knowledge, and be more critical of yourself.

E.P: Briefly introduce yourself.

Ans: My name is Francess Abidemi Dukar, I am 19 years old and also a graduate of political science and international relations from Crawford university.

E.P: How did you develop the interest for make-up

Ans: Well growing up, Horror and science fiction movies have also fascinated me, I wondered how make-up artists come with those special effect and make them look so real so I began watching a lot of these movies then one day I decided to go online to explore how these make-ups were done professionally

E.P: What inspires you most when doing your make-up?

Ans: Basically the good response and comments I get from my friends and family has inspired me so far.

E.P: Growing up in a household of a great icon of the thespian trade which your dad is and a mother who is seriously involved in arts, can you say they have a hand in your choice of career?

Ans: To an extent yes because there is freedom to express yourself without criticism

from them and appreciating me and my lovely make-up. Also I was probably indirectly influenced by my mom while growing up. She is one person who uses lots of make-up at an early stage

E.P: How can lovers of your work contact you?

Ans: Oh through my mum.E.P: We know everything is in the hands of God, what is your projection for the next five years career wise.

Ans: I want to have a breakthrough in nollywood for starters with my creative Sci-fci make-up, I also feel nollywood isn’t where it should be compared to what is obtainable globally. Until recently special effects in nollywood movies was a mere joke but it has improved so I want to get better with my craft.

E.P: How did the passion for writing fiction began?

Ans: Basically, I could say it began with having a story that I believed was worth telling, I mean first I had as story I thought was important enough to come with wanting to be productive, having a desire to be meaningfully engaged. This was after I  had finished writing my PhD  thesis and I was to defend it.

Moreover, I thought it was important for me to write because as a student of literature, I realized that writers are largely the producers of the resources my teachers were using. Don’t get me wrong of course as a teacher you teach a lot of theories, models, ideas and submission of critical theories. In the end there is nearly always the need to illustrate and write works are the resources, so I have to head good number of literary texts and have discovered that some of them have a strong capacity to affect the way I think undoubtedly therefore novels, plays, poetry, short stories and other forms of literary works help people to resolve personal dilemmas, fictional works help readers to know making one choice rather than the other.

Now, if fictional works are that powerful, I had the passion to make my own contributions by writing fiction.

E.P: What goes on in your mind when writing?

Ans: The particular story I’m working on, writing grips, imprisons you once you get into it, it possess you so much that there is a sense of in which it becomes the most important thing to you during the period, so the story occupies your mind and you worry about how to write it in accordance with  your vision.

E.P: Qualities of a good writer?

Ans: Well, I’m not very sure, there are no easy answers to this question. First, are you truly interested? If there is genuine interest, this will always help to reduce the pain of rejection and other unpleasant experiences nearly all writers go through then a would be writer must be willing to read widely. The more you read, the better you are able to write, also you must be willing to invest considerable time, writing takes time if you want to write well, you have to keep at it and be unwavering regardless of the many disappointment and discouragements you are likely to experience.

E.P: My published works so far?

Ans: I have published two novels: “What it takes” and “Where are you from?”. “What it takes” is about the challenges associated with degree awarding processes in Nigerian universities. It tells the story of a female PhD student and the problems she encounters while trying to obtain a PhD in a fictional Nigerian university.

“Where are you from?” narrates the frustrations of a Nigerian university graduate who is unable to get a job because of where she comes from. The novel highlights the problems young people go through in their quest to find their feet, in a country where there are differences in background. I’m currently working on a collection of short stories.

E.P: What’s your take on government altitude to the arts?

Ans: My view, the altitude of the government to the arts is not too different to their altitude to other sectors of the nation. My take is also similar to that of the average Nigerian, what makes the news for me is that lovers and stakeholders are doing all they can to promote and project the arts. These efforts are yielding fruits in spite of the difficulties involved, I’m inclined to think that there will be continuous improvements in the arts as I hope there will be in all spheres of our national life.

E.P: What will be your message to those who may come across some of your books and generally lovers of good literally work?

Ans: I would encourage them to endeavor to read the books and respond to them in whatever way(s) they deem fit.

AMBASSADOR OLAREWAJU OMIYINKA AKA BABA IJESHA’S CATCH PHRASE AND HIS PLACE IN YORUBA COMEDY

Famous comedian Mr Olarenwaju Omiyinka aka Baba Ijesha right from the early 80’s when he made his grand entry into Yoruba comedy film industry has always carved a niche for himself has a multi talented artist and comedian.

Although playing the comic Baba Ijesha every statement he utters in all his films becomes a catch phrase word among the people apart from evoking laughter.

This outstanding and versatile comedian burst into our consciousness with his unparallel use of Yoruba idioms and pity sayings while giving his own interpretation of it. Some of this include; “Eniyan ki wa kitie ma ba” literally translated to mean: One cannot be alone without his/her own share of adversity. Equally is the statement he made popular and which became a trending word when he said “Agba ni Ere” meaning I am an elderly man in Ariogbosogeri, also his words “Ijesha ni Ere” meaning I am an Ijesha man. Not left out of this is his admonition to people who wrong him he says “Ofin Britico ni mo tele” translated to mean: I follow the British law and ways of life in dealing with people.

Baba Ijesha always invoke laughter and drop words that are constantly on the lips of lovers of his comedy like the title of his Yoruba comedy play on BOND FM, Lagos which he calls “IJESHA PELU TROPHY SAME NAANI” (Meaning Ijesha and trophy are the same),-(Ijeshaland is where trophy is bred hence it is the same).

Ambassador Lanre Oniyinka was the first comedian to popularize the lotto business of Chief Kessington Adebutu in a film where he gave the winning numbers as 46, 01, 09, 64, 14.

He also sang a song now poplar among his fans……… Fenu Fa epo ki o to le fenu fa epo wase mechno dada…………………… (meaning - those of you that like using your mouth to draw fuel (petrol) you’ll first learn the work of mechanic before you draw fuel with your mouth because you will bath with one keg of it, eat a small amount of carbade in the process.)

Likewise his word “Ege ko le ega fie nu tu” (The bird uses its mouth to build a house and at the same time use it mouth to destroy it, my highly distinguished readers you will not use your mouth to destroy your house.)

In “mr comedy” he says; “I don’t want a man with sixteen fingers in my house, a house blessed by Jesus christ”

To sidi who described his sleeping like that of somebody sleeping in the grave he responded with this words “Mo da pada” (Meaning- I send it back to the sender).

In “Iwasu efe” he says “Odua ni mi tokan tokan” which is the chorus/chant of the members of Odua People’s Congress. He equally took a shot at corrupt politicians with this song: Awon to fo ko je resi, E lo sora o, toko ba yan yin le Enu o e ti ro ogo o. (You that takes delight in using a hoe to eat rice be careful of the hoe when it pieces your mouth you are in  trouble (metophorically)). On death he says “Everybody has got his/her own certificate of when he/she is going to die”. “What calamity will befall God that he will say sango should help him, it can never happen”. “Any fire we use style to light in order to roast the bald headed vulture it is another bird we will use it to roast”. Equally in “Iwasu efe” he says “eniba pa inoki lo gbe ino ki pun” meaning he that kills a chimpanzee will carry it on his neck.

In OBA IJENE he says “Mo withdraw gbogbo epe to se” (meaning I withdraw all the curses I place on you). In the same of Obaijene he sings of the fact that God should not to kill mungun so that alaye will see work to do.

In “Baba Kondisani” Baba Ijesha comically prayed that what will make a slave to look with scion at his/her master in a what does he think he is. Manner, may we not experience it.

He equally admonish his caretaker (Adewale Elesho) by saying “I don’t want all the logistics you are using for me” meaning he doesn’t accept all his trickish ways. In “Ayodi tiripple” he replied to the request for his daughter “Mopetola” hand’s in marriage saying “oyinbo soro ofi thermocool si” meaning the white man speaks coolly, He also says the white man says Paradexically or dexicallypara.

All his words in his film are trends apart from evoking laughter which is the hallmark of great comedy plays with over sixty-five plays centred strictly on comedy which includes “Arugbosogeri”, “Baba soldier”, “Ifatheology”, “Jogun Jongbon 20/30”, “Mr Jonah”, “Mr Freezer”, “Major Kadara”, “Alagbe ijo”, “Baba Kondisan”, “Gberu”, “Ayo di tripple”, “Iwasu efe 1-13”, “Owo Afoju”, “Awada jimoh”, “Abobaku” etc.

You can never watch any of his films without picking some word that easily becomes catch phrase and abundance of laughter.
